Unit 201 - Principles & Values

This unit will provide learners with the understanding, knowledge and skills required to work to the values and principles in health and social care. It will also provide an understanding of relevant legislation, guidelines and standards, as well as highlight the importance of working in an inclusive way.

Upon completion of this unit, the learner will:

  • Understand how to establish informed consent when providing care or support

  • Be able to work in a person - centered way

  • Understand the implications of duty of care

  • Know how to contribute towards the support of positive risk taking for individuals

  • Be able to encourage active participation, collaboration and wellbeing

  • Understand how to support the individual’s right to make choices

  • Know how to recognise the signs of abuse

  • Understand how to respond to suspected or alleged abuse

  • Understand the national and local context of safeguarding and protection from abuse

  • Be able to identify ways to reduce the likelihood of abuse

  • Understand the importance of equality and inclusion

  • Be able tow work in an inclusive way

  • Understand how to access information, advice and support about diversity, equality and inclusion

Our blended learning approach means you have the flexibility to build your knowledge at a pace that works you via our online portfolio of learning materials.  Whilst any practical training requirements can be delivered at one of our Training Centres in Antrim, Armagh, Ballymena, Banbridge, Belfast, Newtownabbey, Dublin and Monaghan. Alternatively, we can deliver the practical training within your workplace, or any other suitable venue in Northern Ireland (NI) or the Republic of Ireland.
